Russo Brothers Open to Developing Game Based on Avengers: Doomsday

The Russo Brothers are coming back to make two more Avengers movies, but before that, they have a big sci-fi action adventure with Netflix called Electric State with Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown.

With Electric State getting its own prequel video game The Electric State: Kid Cosmos, Variety asked the Russos if they would be open to making a Marvel game based on Avengers: Doomsday, to Joe Russo says, “We would definitely be open to it.”

Though the Russo’s AGBO brand has been focused on movies, it does look like they’re going to be expanding their territory for games—with an emphasis on world-building in Doomsday. Russo continues, “Right now, what we’re doing is creating new IP. At AGBO, we want to tell new stories. We want to tell new stories with new characters and new worlds that people haven’t seen before. So Anthony and I and Donald are working together to build out new worlds. And we have three that we’re currently working on that the intention is, for every world we build to have the scale and depth of a Star Wars universe, but in a different genre. And then we’ll build materials around those new worlds. We’ll tell stories in different ways using different media in those worlds.”

While Marvel Rivals may be a success now, fans have pointed out that Marvel had been having a hard time getting their games off the ground, with the Avengers game being an infamous flop.

Admittedly, though tie-in games were a thing back in the early 2000s, development and standards have just gone up so much in recent years that it would be too expensive (and too risky) to make a game that has canon implications in the MCU. Marvel Studios already has enough problems just integrating a cohesive narrative for both movies and films; just imagine having them coordinate with games too.

Who knows, maybe some developer will find some kind of magical formula to bring tie-in games back, but as of now, it seems like the cheapest solution is puzzle games—like what Kid Cosmos is going to be for Electric State.

Is it so hard for someone to make a pixilated fighter game for the MCU Avengers? How about a retro beat-em-up like the TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge?

Avengers: Doomsday is expected to release in theaters on May 1, 2026.
