GLOW was supposed to get its fourth and final season on Netflix, but complications due to COVID-19 had prompted the streaming service to cancel the whole thing. While a lot of fans are still hoping that Netflix will #SaveGLOW in the future, it seems like show creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch are moving on to work on a new series.
According to Variety, Mensch and Flahive have teamed up with Apple TV to bring in a show called Roar, a half-hour anthology series which tells a ‘series of darkly comic feminist fables.’ The series is actually based on a book of short stories by Cecilia Ahern, and it will star actresses Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever, and returning GLOW star Alison Brie.
No details have been released about Roar yet, but seeing as how Mensch and Flahive were so meticulous in their treatment of GLOW, they should probably bring in the same kind of energy when it comes to their new show. We don’t know when the series is expected to come out, but if the announcement comes now, I’m guessing we could get the series sometime in 2022.
In the meantime, some fans are still hopeful that Netflix somehow just converts the final season of GLOW into a film. Multiple stars including Marc Maron had already showed their support, but we haven’t gotten any major announcements. With the vaccines slowly rolling out, and productions getting back into gear, maybe Netflix can reconsider their options.
In the meantime, you can catch the first 3 seasons of GLOW on Netflix.
