Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Director Already in Talks for a Sequel

[SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS]

Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. had taken over the Transformers franchise with Rise of the Beasts, and based on last weekend’s box office numbers, the movie is off to a pretty great start. The film ends with set-ups for several more movies, and it looks like Caple could be coming back for a follow-up.

According to Deadline, Caple is already in talks to helm the next Transformers movie. We don’t have any more details besides that, but it will probably follow-up on the story of Unicron, who was introduced in Rise of the Beasts; but didn’t really have any major involvement in the main plot.

With the film also teasing a crossover with the G.I. Joe franchise (another Hasbro IP), it’s possible we would be getting the Joe movie next, followed by another Transformers—all building up to the actual clash with Unicron, who will probably transform into a giant robot this time, like he did in the animated movie.

Personally, the story feels a bit more simple than what we’ve gotten from the Michael Bay films, but seeing as how that story kind of fell apart, this new Transformers timeline feels like it has a solid arc that it’s chosen to follow. With all the Autobots set-up, I’m just hopeful that the franchise decides to bring back the OG Transformers villain Megatron in the next movie; complete with other Decepticon favorites like Starscream and Soundwave.

Catch Transformers: Rise of the Beasts now screening in theaters.
