We may not be getting a Solo 2 or the Rey Skywalker movie anytime soon, but it looks like former Star Wars leads Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich are going to be teaming up for something more Earth-bound with The Last Resort.
According to Deadline, Ridley and Ehrenreich are going to star in The Last Resort, a movie about a young woman looking for a new resort location in the Philippines. The movie, ‘follows Brooke (Ridley), who is determined to prove herself worthy of running her father’s hotel empire. She travels to the Philippines to scout a new resort location and meets Ben (Ehrenreich), a charming expatriate pilot who helps her discover the beauty of the country—and a newfound sense of freedom. As love and duty collide, Brooke must choose between the life she’s built and the one she’s only just begun to love.’
The movie is being produced by Asia Pacific Films and is expected to be shot in the Philippines. The film is also directed by Donald Petrie, who had directed another Star Wars vet Hayden Christensen in another rom-com called Little Italy.
As for the script, it’s provided by Karen McCullah who had worked on classic rom-coms like Legally Blonde and 10 Things I Hate about You. The story sounds pretty plain, but it should be a crowd pleaser. Besides the romance between Brooke and Ben, it’s likely the film’s main hook is going to be the fantastic locations.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of both Ridley and Ehrenreich, and I can’t wait for their Star Wars return. While that’s going to take forever though, I wouldn’t mind a rom-com between Rey and the would-be father of Kylo Ren.
So far no release date has been set for The Last Resort, but it does sound like it could go straight to Netflix by next year.
