Quibi is an upcoming streaming service which will put the focus on making content for mobile-users. With the platform expected to launch later this year, Quibi is looking for more and more creatives to make content for their app. What’s interesting is, they’ve nabbed Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland.
As per The Wrap, Roiland will be working on a show called Gloop World which will focus on two blob roommates, Funzy and Bob Roundy. Unlike Rick and Morty, this show will actually be in the form of Claymation, and each episode will last no longer than 10 minutes.
Roiland had this to say about taking on the project:
“‘Gloop World’ has been a dream of mine to make for almost seven years… A tactile clay animation show with a mysterious, weird, and expansive world and really fun characters, fingerprints and all. I couldn’t have done this without the folks at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios who understood exactly what I meant when I wanted the clay animation to have an imperfect approach, where you can see the animators in the work. I want the ‘Gloop’ characters to feel like you can reach into your phone and grab them yourself. Can’t wait to share this weird silly show with the world!”
While I know that Roiland has his own brand of humor, it’s going to be interesting to see how he makes the show without Dan Harmon. If anything, Harmon is responsible for the more meta storytelling of Rick and Morty, which a lot of people think is what makes the show great. It would be interesting to see how Roiland decides to push forward with Gloop World; will he attempt to make it subtly meaningful, or will he go all out when it comes to his crazy sense of humor?
No release date has been set for Gloop World, but Quibi launches April 6.
