Fans of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty remember how long they had to wait last year for the third season, but news has it that we might have to wait even longer for Season 4.
Talking to Detroit Cast, Rick and Morty writer Ryan Ridley explains:
“They really take their time… I never understood why everybody — all parties, Dan [Harmon], Justin [Roiland], and Adult Swim — didn’t get their shit together, and make the show fast; I just don’t get it. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I’m sure they all have their reasons.”
Ever since his days back on Community, co-creator Dan Harmon has been known to take time with his shows mainly because he wants to ensure that the next season will come out great. Personally, I’d rather wait a long time for a great season than to get regular releases with mediocre material.
I guess the difficult part about animating Rick and Morty is the improvisational nature of the show. Plus, the entire series gets incredibly meta, and every seasoned couch potato can tell you that it’s no regular animated series—That’s all thanks to Harmon and Roiland.
Hopefully Ridley is wrong with his calculations, but the way things go behind-the-scenes, I’m actually not so surprised that we’ll have to wait a while again. Let’s just hope it doesn’t escalate to the crowds forming outside McDonalds because they ran out of Szechuan sauce.
