Rebel Moon will Also have a Director’s Cut which is an Hour Longer

It really seems that director Zack Snyder can’t make short movies; he had director’s cuts for Watchmen and Justice League, and now it looks like he’ll be doing the same thing with his upcoming Netflix film, Rebel Moon.

Talking to Netflix, Snyder reveals that Rebel Moon will also come with a director’s cut, and it’s going to be an additional hour compared to the standard version of the film. Snyder says:

“The director’s cut is close to an hour of extra content, so I think it’s a legitimate extended universe version. You really get to see a lot. It’s just more painted-in all the way. The director’s [cut] is a settle-in deep dive, which I have notoriously done throughout my career.”

Though originally conceived as a Star Wars project, Snyder had decided to turn the idea into an original IP, but fans can already see all the telltale signs of Star Wars influence from the Nazi-inspired villains to Donna Bae wielding what looks like lightsabers.

If anything, Snyder does say that it isn’t really necessary for everyone to watch the director’s cut; but it should be a treat for anyone who will find themselves big fans of the universe of Rebel Moon. He continues:

“… with Netflix, we shot scenes just for the director’s cut. So in that way, it’s really a revelation because it gives that second kick at the can for big fans, like a real discovery that they would not [otherwise] get. I’m really excited about it!”

So far we’ve only got a tiny glimpse of Rebel Moon, but fans are already gearing up for the next thing Snyder is going to bring to the table post-DC. Watch out for Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire when it comes to Netflix on Dec. 22.
