Star Wars had taken a break from the Sequel Trilogy after The Rise of Skywalker, but Lucasfilm can only keep running for so long on the original trilogy era. Fans know that a new movie with Rey (Daisy Ridley) is in the works, and after a couple of snags, we have some possible new details for the upcoming film.
According to StarWarsNews.net, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is expected to submit his latest draft of the script by the end of the Thanksgiving season—so the Lucasfilm executives should have a look at it by Christmas.
The Rey movie is said to have the working title Star Wars: A New Beginning, which harkens back to A New Hope, but it doesn’t seem to be the final choice yet. As of now, it does seem that Lucasfilm is more focused on ‘getting the actual story right for now.’
Seeing as how the Sequel Trilogy had played out in terms of production, a lot of fans are remaining cautious of how the franchise could take Rey’s character in the future. Though it did seem that Lucasfilm was ready to take Star Wars to new directions after The Last Jedi, an angry backlash of ‘fans’ had resulted in the painfully apologetic Rise of Skywalker, which ended up angering the TLJ supporters and the haters.
Though it does seem that Star Wars has leaned heavily on nostalgia and fanservice with properties like Ahsoka and Obi-Wan Kenobi, it’s series like Andor that manage to give hope to fans that there is room for some more mature storytelling in Star Wars; and stories that aren’t so reliant on how much you already know about the universe.
No release date has been set for the next Star Wars movie starring Daisy Ridley.
