Possible New Details on Mads Mikkelsen’s Character in Indiana Jones 5

While it looked like Harrison Ford was ready to pass the torch in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, divisive reviews has opted for an Indy film that would be the more definitive sendoff of the character. Indiana Jones 5 is now underway with director James Mangold, and we may have new details on the plot and character of one Mads Mikkelsen.

According to The Illuminerdi, a source has confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 will be taking place around the time of the 1960s space race, and Mikkelsen will be playing a ‘Nazi scientist enlisted into NASA by the United States government to work on the space agency’s moon landing initiative.’

Working with Mikkelsen will be Shaunette Renee Wilson, who will be his ‘CIA handler’ making sure that Mikkelsen’s character doesn’t pull a HYDRA and compromise the mission in the name of Nazis.

Of course, we should just take these rumors with a grain of salt, but after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull introduced Indy to the concept of aliens, it would make sense narratively for the next film to pull on that ‘space’ thread.

At 78-years-old, we should expect this to be Ford’s final appearance as Dr. Jones, and hopefully this will be the sendoff that the character deserves. While the franchise likely had the idea to have Shia LaBeouf be the new franchise lead, some speculate that this film will have Indy pass the torch to Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character—whoever she’s playing.

Catch Indiana Jones 5 when it hits theaters on July 29, 2022.
