Aquaman is roughly a year and a half out from release and there’s still plenty of secrecy surrounding. Of course, there’s good reason, but the guessing game is always fun. Perhaps Justice League will offer some clues later in the year as to what the King of Atlantis’ solo will entail. Until then, however, a new potential tidbit will have to tide us over. Aquaman is set to begin filming in Queensland, Australia in the next several months. As such, a casting call for stand-ins, extras, etc. has made its way online thanks to Acting-Auditions (via Comicbook.com). With said call comes a film synopsis of sorts. It doesn’t offer much, but it does tease a certain direction the film could be headed in. Check it out below:
“Aquaman will center on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface. Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Jason Momoa will play Aquaman. Also starring is Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Hollywood Film Awards winner Amber Heard as Mera, two-time Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, two-time Golden Globe Award nominee Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master, New Zealand Film and TV Awards winner Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.”
The King of Atlantis will be stuck in the middle of a struggle between “land dwellers” and his people. This is certainly a familiar storyline, so no surprise there. However, what’s most interesting is the mention of Nicole Kidman. It seems to confirm that she will indeed be playing Aquaman’s mother, Atlanna. In late January, rumors began circulating that the Academy Award winner was in early talks to star in the film alongside Jason Momoa. Could those talks have been finalized? It certainly looks that way.
Aquaman opens in theaters on October 5, 2018.
