Pixar had tried to tackle sci-fi with Lightyear and failed, but with Elemental coming out this week, the studio has given us a look at another upcoming film called Elio.

For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers—in Disney and Pixar’s all-new movie “Elio,” the universe calls back! The original feature film introduces Elio, an underdog with an active imagination who finds himself inadvertently beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, and completely unprepared for that kind of pressure, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, survive a series of formidable trials and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be.
The movie is directed by Adrian Molina who was the screenwriter and co-director for Pixar’s Coco. The film will also feature the voice talents of America Ferrera, Jameela Jamil, and Brad Garrett; the film will also be introducing us to Yonas Kibreab who will be providing the voice of the lead Elio.
So far, the movie seems to have a sci-fi premise we’ve gotten before, with a bunch of aliens thinking that someone unqualified is representing the human race. We don’t really know what’s in it for the character of Elio, but maybe his name could be a hint at his story; after all ‘Elio’ means ‘the sun’ and has origins in Spanish, Italian, and Latin. Maybe Elio is supposed to be a bright beacon for the future after all? We’ll just have to wait and see till the movie comes out.
Elio comes to cinemas on March 1, 2024.
