It’s hard to believe that Seth MacFarlane’s Ted came out more than a decade ago, but there’s a special place in everyone’s heart for a foul-mouthed, drug-smoking teddy bear. A prequel series had been announced for Peacock a while a ago, and now we’re getting our first look at the show.
Check this out:
The official synopsis reads:
In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s (Seth MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.
As the synopsis goes, they’ve aged John (originally Mark Wahlberg’s character) to 16-years-old to be able to walk the line of raunchiness and immaturity—which is essentially the brand of the franchise. We should expect Ted to fully influence all of John’s bad habits from his drug use and lack of ambition; but at the same time there should also be some hint at Ted’s former fame from back when everyone was excited to know he was a living teddy bear.
Admittedly the sequel to Ted wasn’t so well-received when it came out, but a prequel could bring everyone onboard with Ted’s brand of being the polar opposite of Chucky the Killer Doll. Hopefully the show will still manage to keep the heart between Ted and John.
Ted the series is set to premiere on Peacock this coming Jan. 11, 2024.
