Director Glen Keane has had a very solid resume when it comes to animation, working as a supervisor during the height of the Disney “Renaissance”. Now he’s teamed up with Netflix for an animated movie called Over the Moon, and we have a fantastic new trailer.
Check it out:
Here’s the official description:
Fueled with determination and a passion for science, a bright young girl builds a rocket ship to the moon to prove the existence of a legendary Moon Goddess. There she ends up on an unexpected quest, and discovers a whimsical land of fantastical creatures.
The movie has an all-star cast, with voices from Ken Jeong, Kimiko Glenn, John Cho, and Sandra Oh. The lead character, Fei Fei, is voiced by Cathy Ang with the Moon goddess Chang’e voiced by Hamilton’s Phillipa Soo.
While the first trailer had only given us a look at the Earth before the journey, this latest preview shows us the fantastical world of the moon. We don’t really know who all the characters are yet, but it looks like the Moon Goddess is inspired by K-Pop stars, and it’s likely that she’s going to be the main villain (despite possibly being the character’s mom).
It has all the earmarks of a Disney movie, from a dazzling visuals, songs, and cutesy sidekicks. At this point, with the rabbit, the young boy, and the moon dog, I think Over the Moon is kind of overdoing it; but I guess we’ll have to wait and see if all of it balances out.
Over the Moon is set to hit Netflix on Oct. 23.
