Everyone was expecting it to flop like before, but Netflix’s live-action One Piece managed to be a success, and we’re getting more of the live-action Straw Hats going down the line. We know that production for Season 2 is currently ongoing, but it’s possible that Netflix could be looking ahead this time.
According to actor Brashaad Mayweather (via ComicBook), they are actually shooting the second and third season of One Piece together. He says, “We’ll see if they flash back to its because they’re filming two seasons – season two and three – back to back starting soon. So we’ll see what happens.”
Just in case you don’t remember, Mayweather plays the supporting role of Patty—one of the cooks of the Baratie that works under Sanji’s mentor Zeff.
So far, the show has been compressing multiple arcs into a season, but they’ve also been trying their best to stick true to the essential parts of the Straw Hats’ journey. With the East Blue Saga done, we’re now expected to go into the Alabasta arc which is oddly similar to Frank Herbert’s Dune and will have Luffy and the gang travelling through a desert filled with all kinds of creatures while there’s a fight over a drug called Dance Powder (which is totally not Spice Melange).
With the show requiring a lot of VFX, I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to just shoot what they can while they could and just save it for future seasons. I’m still worried about how the show is going to pull off Chopper.
Will they just have him appear minimally? Or will they just make him a humanoid like Sweet Tooth? How about they make him a muppet? I’m always a fan of a good muppet.
No release date has been announced for One Piece Season 2.
