One Piece LEGO Sets based on Netflix Show Announced

LEGO has had several partnerships over the years from Star Wars to Marvel, but one property that they seem to be wary to touch is anime. Now it looks like they’ve had a change of heart as LEGO has just announced their collab with One Piece.

Here’s the announcement with a  drawing of LEGO Luffy from One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda:

By the looks of it, this collaboration is a lot closer to the live-action series from Netflix, and the release is set to coincide with the return of the second season this year. Netflix’s VP of consumer products Josh Simon says, “Through every detail of the design process, we’ve worked to meticulously create a collection of playsets that will give fans new ways to live out their own epic voyages into the Grand Line one special brick at a time.”

No official looks at the sets have been made yet, but fans are already speculating what LEGO and Netflix could come up with. There are already several bootleg One Piece LEGO sets based on the anime, so maybe this time there’ll actually be an official set for Luffy’s ship the Going Merry.

Some are also hoping for a buildable Devil Fruit and maybe LEGO can make a whole series of those for fans to collect.

With the sets releasing close to the second season, maybe a lot of them depict scenes from One Piece 2, but there’s also a lot of great moments and characters from the first season that it would be a shame if they didn’t get a LEGO kit. I mean, Buggy the Clown is right there.

No release date has been set for the One Piece LEGO kits, but they are rumored to be releasing this summer. One Piece 2 is set to premiere on Netflix later this year.
