One Piece was an anime that launched back in 1999 from Toei Animation, and it has since been ongoing, making it one of the longest-running anime series ever made. Though the anime is pretty much caught up to Luffy’s adventures in the manga, it looks like Netflix is ready to go all the way back to the beginning.
As per an official announcement on Netflix, One Piece is going to be getting a reboot, and Wit Studio (Spy x Family, Attack on Titan) are going to be retelling the first arc of the manga with the “East Blue Saga” dubbed The One Piece:
We don’t know how far the reboot is willing to go, but it should be able to be a great jumping off point for fans who want to get into the series. With the original anime episodes coming out way back in the late 90s, there’s bound to be a lot of changes when it comes to the storytelling and action animation.
Hopefully the team at Wit will also add some new things to the story that should also be a surprise for longtime One Piece fans. With the East Blue Saga taking up 61 episodes to tell, Wit definitely has their work cut out for them storytelling wise.
We don’t have a look at the new animation yet, but by the sound of the teaser, it looks like the original voice cast with be reprising their roles. We’ll just have to wait and see.
No release date has been set for The One Piece, but you can catch the new live-action One Piece series now streaming on Netflix.
