Bob Odenkirk to Star in ‘Serious’ Remake of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room

Tommy Wiseau’s The Room is probably one of the most bizarre pieces of media to ever exist, and it’s one of the best examples of a movie that’s ‘so bad, it’s good,’ spawning a cult following and a movie about how it was made starring James Franco.

What’s funny is, The Room is going to be getting its own remake, and it’s going to star none other than Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk. According to to /Film, Odenkirk will be starring in a green screen remake of The Room where he’ll be playing the part of Wiseau’s Johnny, and it won’t be played as a joke.

Here’s the announcement:

And Odenkirk himself also confirmed that the project was indeed a thing:

It’s also worth mentioning that the film is going to be a charity project, and proceeds will be going to The Foundation for AIDS Research.

After the powerhouse performance that was Jimmy McGill in Better Call Saul, a remake of The Room oddly feels like something in Odenkirk’s comedy wheelhouse. Though the movie is considered by a lot of audiences as a comedy, it’s going to be interesting to see just how it plays out with Odenkirk delivering his acting chops to each scene as the lead Johnny.

I’m just curious what James Franco had to say about the project since he was the one behind The Disaster Artist—which, coincidentally, also starred Odenkirk:

Hopefully we get a look at the remake soon. It just sounds like such a bizarre project, and I’m always interested to see what Odenkirk is up to creatively.

As of now, there’s still no release date for The Room remake.
