Maya Erskine may be ending her amazing run on Pen15, but she’s signed on with Lucasfilm to work on the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. We don’t have any news on who she’ll be playing in the series, but she does give some details about working on a Star Wars set.
Talking to the Just for Variety podcast, Erskine reveals that the extras on the set were “mega fans” of the franchise. She says:
“The extras were incredible on the set, and a lot of them were mega ‘Star Wars’ fans. One guy, he was so nice and he lifted up his sleeves and had ‘Star Wars’ tattoos over his whole body. And they build droids. There are lot of ‘Star Wars’ fans that build droids, and then the production companies will rent [them] from the fans.”
Maya Erskine reveals that die-hard #StarWars fans appear as extras in the upcoming #ObiWanKenobi series: "They build droids!"

This isn’t the first time that production has asked help from the fans. In the first season of The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm had hired members of the 501st Legion to use their screen accurate stormtrooper outfits since they were running short.
We don’t know who Erskine is playing in the series yet, but it’s said to be just a small role. Watching Erskine’s work, I think she would be perfect as expanded universe character Doctor Aphra. Though it’s possible she won’t have a large role in Kenobi, I could imagine her taking on a more substantial part with the Ahsoka series.
No release date has been set for Obi-Wan Kenobi, but you can catch The Book of Boba Fett when it comes out Dec. 29.
