Back in January, reports were coming out that Paramount had scripts in development for two Transformers films, one of them being based on the spinoff, Beast Wars. While updates on the franchise have been scarce for the past year, it looks like the studio has found someone to direct at least one of the entries.
According to Deadline, Paramount and Hasbro are currently looking at Steven Caple Jr. (Creed 2) to direct the next Transformers movie. We don’t really know which of the two projects this one is, but it could be safe to assume that if it was the Beast Wars movie, then they would say it was the Beast Wars movie outright.
It’s also assumed that this movie will be taking place in the timeline established by Bumblebee. With Michael Bay’s movies already having some pretty messed up continuity, it would make sense to start fresh with the prequel/reboot. I mean, isn’t Transformers all about frequently rebooting for the next generation?
Personally, I’m all up for a new continuity. Though the Bumblebee movie wasn’t perfect, it kind of serves as a new origin story or the Autobots and the War for Cybertron. I mean, if I had my way, the movie would actually just be about the robots battling it out in their home planet. Who needs humans to be injected into the story just for the audiences to relate to?
Paramount has slated this next Transformers film to come out on June 24, 2022.
