Watch First Teaser for the Next Hunger Games Movie: Sunrise on the Reaping

Fans thought that Suzanne Collins was done when The Hunger Games quadrilogy had ended, but she still has more story to tell with Panem. After The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Lionsgate is set to release a movie adaptation of the 2025 book Sunrise on the Reaping, and they just dropped the first teaser.

Check this out:

Though the last movie had focused on a young Coriolanus Snow, Sunrise on the Reaping shifts the focus to  a younger Haymitch Abernathy (originally played by Woody Harrelson) who is going through the second Quarter Quell of the Hunger Games.

Besides Haymitch, the story also features some key figures in Katniss’ story including victor Beetee (Jeffrey Wright) and game maker Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman)—all of which are still building to their story in the trilogy, with Beetee being a mentor for his district’s tributes and Plutarch being a cameraman for the games.

Of course, Snow is also expected to appear in this story, but it’s going to be 15 years after the events of Songbirds and Snakes so fans shouldn’t expect him to be young and hot anymore. I would still love to know what happened to Lucy Gray Baird though. I would even settle for just a hologram of Rachel Zegler reprising the role because she is fantastic.

With the book being written around the same time as the movie, it does seem like there is now more cohesion between the Hunger Games books and films. We don’t know what that means for the future, but I hope Collins doesn’t fall in the same trap that J.K. Rowling did with Fantastic Beasts.

Catch The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping which comes out Nov. 20, 2026.
