We may have to wait until next year for Timothee Chalamet to liberate the people of Arrakis, but this holiday season he’s going to be peddling some kooky chocolate and sweets in Paul King’s Wonka.
Just in, WB Pictures has dropped new clips from the film, and it has Wonka trying out his different chocolates and Hugh Grant’s Oompa-Loompa explaining his beef with Wonka. Check this out:
Here’s the clip with Grant:
Just to be clear, Wonka is expected to be a soft prequel to the beloved classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder; which is its own kind of magical brand as compared to Tim Burton’s version.
Admittedly, the film seems to be afraid of marketing itself as a musical. The movie is expected to have a bunch of original songs, but just like the Mean Girls reboot, it doesn’t seem to be confident enough to market any of its numbers (besides a few clips of people dancing).
Though a lot like to complain about this film being Hollywood milking something that didn’t need a remake, I am confident that director Paul King can make Wonka a holiday classic.
Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.
Wonka comes to cinemas this holiday season on Dec. 15.
