We know that Legendary Pictures still plans to release another kaiju film with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, but with that movie set to come out next year, we have a tie-in animated series that’s set to premiere next month.
Have a first look at Skull Island:
According to THR, the cast of the film includes Nicolas Cantu (TMNT: Mutant Mayhem), Mae Whitman (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Darren Barnett (Never Have I Ever), Benjamin Bratt (Poker Face), and Betty Gilpin (GLOW).
The site also describes the series:
Skull Island will see kind-hearted explorers rescue Annie (Whitman) from the ocean, only for their heroism to land them on the treacherous Skull Island, home to bizarre creatures and terrifying monsters, including the mighty King Kong,
The last time we got to visit Skull Island was way back in 2017 with Kong: Skull Island. We don’t really know what happened to the place in the present time, but we do know that it’s crawling with all kinds of gigantic creatures and primitive humans who haven’t been able to get off the island.
So far, the series looks a lot like other animated Netflix properties like Voltron: Legendary Defender and Masters of the Universe: Revelations, and it should be a fun watch over the weekend if you like giant monsters and anime. Hopefully we get some kind of teaser for the upcoming films like New Empire.
Watch out for Skull Island when it comes to Netflix on June 22.
