New LOTR Films will Not Upstage Rings of Power

It was reported earlier this week that WB would be moving forward with more Lord of the Rings projects, but a lot of Tolkien fans are wondering just how that would affect Amazon’s currently running (and expensive) Rings of Power series.

While some expected that the new films would affect ROP, Amazon head Jennifer Salke told Variety, “We’ll see… We love our original series. We’re extremely proud of it, and invested long term. So, we definitely think there’s enough fan love to sustain ours for a long time.”

Admittedly, Rings of Power has been fighting an uphill battle ever since it was conceived. Not only does it have to please an extremely protective fandom that’s critical of every change from the books, but it also had to compete directly with HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon when it premiered.

When the series released, it was no doubt drowned out by the buzz surrounding the more scandalous HOTD series, but Amazon has gone on record to say that they have gotten what they bargained for with Rings of Power, and the series has actually more than paid off their investment.

Though the series does start off pretty slow, I think Rings of Power has a great ensemble cast, and the production value is definitely impressive. I also have to commend Morfydd Clark who plays Galadriel at a very interesting point in the character’s life; don’t even get me started with the ‘Sexy Sauron’ memes that the finale spawned.

For now, you can catch the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power now streaming on Amazon Prime.
