New Joker: Folie a Deux Featurette Looks Into the ‘Music Inside Arthur’

Dancing was such an integral part to the character of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, and the sequel, Folie a Deux is looking to have Joker (and Harley) start singing in their fantasies.

It’s not clear how much of this film is going to be a musical yet, but a new featurette has been dropped that gives an insider look at just how much the movie is going to be leaning into music this time around. Check this out:

“There’s a romance to Arthur in the first film,” explains director Todd Phillips, “like when he dances in the bathroom; Arthur has music in him. That was a logical leaping-off point for the sequel.”

Though the first film looked to be heavily stylized with a limited budget, it does seem that the sequel does have more going for it, with Joker and Harley finding themselves in more elaborate fantasies when they’re together. Not to mention, there are a lot more costumes this time around.

With Phoenix expected to bring the acting chops once again, the inclusion of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Folie a Deux definitely has a lot of fans’ interest piqued. We already know that she’s a dynamite musical performer, but can she manage to match the stage presence of Phoenix’s Joker when they’re both onscreen?

I’m just waiting for the opening night which is going to see an odd group of Joker fans alongside Lady Gaga fans lined up to see a movie together.

Joker: Folie a Deux is set to release in theatres on Oct. 4.
