CD Projekt Red has a lot to thank Cyberpunk: Edgerunners for, seeing that it basically renewed interest in their poorly launched Cyberpunk 2077 game. With a sequel in the works coming back to Night City, it’s been confirmed that we could be getting another animated series set in the same world.
According to a recent earnings call (via Video Games Chronicle), CDPR CFO Piotr Nielubowicz has confirmed that there is another animated Cyberpunk project in the works with Netflix. He specifically said, “I’m also very happy to announce that we’re working on another animation project set in the Cyberpunk universe, which will be released on Netflix.”
No further details have been listed about the project, and it hasn’t been confirmed if this new story is going to be animated by Studio Trigger again. The only thing that fans can be sure of for now is that the project is set to release on Netflix.
Admittedly, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners really caught everyone off guard. Though the world of Night City is interesting enough, Edgerunners managed to draw an audience in with some great characters and a solid story that fully embraces the anti-establishment themes of the original game.
Though some fans may have been clamoring for a second season, some argue that the first season is already pretty well-contained as a story, and should a sequel be made, it should be focused on a different group of punks that walk around Night City.
