We’ve watched Jacob Elordi be a toxic boyfriend in Euphoria, and he’s set to play a manipulative version of Elvis Presley in the upcoming Priscilla. Just when you think he’s out of toxic boys to play, he gets cast opposite Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk) in a artsy drama thriller called Saltburn.
Watch this:
The official description for the film reads:
Academy Award winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) brings us a beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire. Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.
Though Keoghan and Elordi are at the very center of the film, other cast members include Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Millie Kent, and Archie Madekwe. They even managed to bring in Promising Young Woman star Carey Mulligan to play another eccentric-looking character.
Admittedly, the artsy nature of all the shots make Saltburn feel like it’s going to be an arthouse film, but if you’ve watched Promising Young Woman, you’ll know that Fennell can deliver a straightforward narrative that’s pretty easy to understand. Then again, we’ll just have to wait and see for the film to come out to get a better idea of what the movie is trying to say.
With PYW having an interesting take on gender dynamics and toxic masculinity, it does seem that Saltburn wants to tell a story that’s more focused on class differences this time around.
Saltburn comes to cinemas on Nov. 17.
