Henry Cavill wasn’t able to make a cameo as Superman in Shazam!, and a big part of that is because he was busy working on Netflix’s The Witcher. A lot of people are excited to see Cavill become Geralt of Rivia, and it looks like they don’t have to wait too long before we get the show on air.
According to Variety, Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos confirmed during an earnings call that The Witcher is aiming for a release sometime between October and December. Sarandos also had this to say about the show:
“… A big new original series that we’re currently shooting in Hungary called ‘The Witcher,’ that is an enormous European IP, very popular game and Book IP, that we think is going to make a really fun global series.”
With Stranger Things moving up to a July release this year, I imagine the Netflix Halloween slate is going to be a bit empty—a perfect time to drop The Witcher. Then again, we don’t know as to what tone the series will be, but it’s been said that the show will draw a lot more from the original books by Andrzej Sapkowski as compared to the more popular game from CD Projekt Red.
With a release set for later this year, it’s likely that we could get our first trailer for The Witcher soon. My guess is it could release sometime before June, but it’s not impossible we’ll get something as soon as this month.
Catch The Witcher on Netflix when it comes out later this fall.
