Netflix to Produce Live-Action Dungeons & Dragons Series with Stranger Things Director

The Witcher may be on its way out after two seasons, but it looks like Netflix has managed to nab a major fantasy property to adapt into a series.

According to Deadline, Netflix is teaming up with Stranger Things’ Shawn Levy for a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series. The series is subtitled The Forgotten Realms, and will take place in the setting of D&D that was established with Honor Among Thieves.

Though Levy is going to produce the series, the showrunner role belongs to Drew Crevello (WeCrashed), and Hasbro Entertainment will also be attached in the making of the show.

Originally, the series was supposed to be produced for Paramount+ back in 2023, but after a restructuring of plans and Lionsgate buying out eOne, it looks like Netflix will have to be the home of the D&D series.

While there are some that have hoped that Honor Among Thieves would get a sequel, the underwhelming box office of that movie probably meant that no sequel was going to push forward. With a series though, there’s a ton of room for D&D to develop, and maybe they can fill in that fantasy space while fans wait for the next season of House of the Dragon.

With enough luck, maybe there could be room in the budget for a guest appearance from Chris Pine or Michelle Rodriguez from the film. You think Sophia Lillis is too busy for one episode?

There are barely any details revealed for Dungeons & Dragons: The Forgotten Realms, but hopefully we’ll see a premiere sometime in 2026.
