With the Mortal Kombat movie set to arrive this April, a lot of fans are curious on when we’re going to get the first proper trailer for the movie. What’s great is New Line is going to be dropping it this week, and we’ll finally get to see this new take on klassic characters like Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kano, and more.
As announced by the official MK page, the first trailer for Mortal Kombat will be dropping this Thursday. Check it out:

While Liu Kang has been long considered the hero of the Mortal Kombat series, the new protagonist of the film is said to be a character named Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan. Here’s a description of Cole from EW:
“When we first meet Cole, he’s in a really bad spot… He’s down on his luck. He’s kind of a washed-up MMA fighter who used to be a champion, who used to believe in himself, who used to have a lot of hope in his career. And it’s all gone down the drain. It’s a very interesting place for a hero to start, and I think that, along the journey of Mortal Kombat and Cole discovering where he comes from, you’re introduced to all these other iconic characters and elements that everybody loves so dearly.”
With MK already being filled with characters, a lot of fans are wondering why the film would bother to introduce an entirely new character. Some guess that Cole is actually an entirely different character, and will probably have his ‘real’ identity revealed at some point in the film. Personally, I’m convinced that he becomes a celebrity by the end of the film, and he changes his name to… Johnny Cage.
It’s just a theory.
For now, catch Mortal Kombat when it hits HBO Max and select theaters on April 16.
