It looks like the movie delays are now affecting releases set for July. Just in, Sony has now pushed back their films which were slated for a summer release.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Morbius, originally set to come out in July 31, now has a release date set for March 19, 2021. Besides that, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is also being pushed from July 10 to March 5, 2021. Sony has also pushed back movies set to come out near that time like Uncharted and Peter Rabbit 2.
Though a lot of us were hoping that things could go back to normal by June, it looks like these studios think this is going to last for much longer. Then again, maybe they’re just pushing back these July releases so they can make room for the movies that were set to come out March to May. There was no way they were going to release all the movies in 2020, seeing that they have to consider what other studios are going to be putting out in order not to compete too much at the box office.
While I’m generally indifferent to Morbius, I’m kind of bummed that Ghostbusters had to be pushed back to next year. I was eager for a return to the original continuity, and after 2016’s Ghostbusters, the franchise really needed a breath of fresh air. Hopefully when we get more information on the coming down of the virus, we can get release dates that won’t be so far back.
Morbius hits theaters March 19, 2021, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes out March 5 of the same year.
