Blue Sky Studios may not have been able to push forward with their Nimona movie, but Annapurna Pictures had picked up the slack and the movie is now looking to come out Netflix by the end of the month.
To hype up the release, Netflix has released an official trailer for the movie which gives us a good look at lead character Nimona and her knight friend Sir Ballister. Check this out:
Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) will be providing the voice of the titular Nimona with Riz Ahmed voicing Sir Ballister. Other members of the cast include RuPaul, Indya Moore, Lorraine Toussaint, and Frances Conroy.
The movie is based on a comic from ND Stevenson which had come out back in 2015. Though there are some differences when it comes to the design of the characters from the comic, they did keep a lot of core elements, including the ex-romance between Sir Ballister and Sir Ambrosius.
Hopefully not too many conservatives get mad that an ex-gay couple is in the film. I mean, it is Pride Month.
The movie synopsis reads:
A Knight is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and the only person who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona, a shape-shifting teen who might also be a monster he’s sworn to kill. Set in a techno-medieval world unlike anything animation has tackled before, this is a story about the labels we assign to people and the shapeshifter who refuses to be defined by anyone.
Catch Nimona when it premieres on Netflix on June 30.
