Besides playing Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, one of Ewan McGregor’s more memorable roles in cinema is no doubt the drug-addled Renton from Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting. That movie had McGregor battling addiction, and now he’s set to star in a film where he’s a former addict that has to help his own daughter battle addiction.
Check out the trailer for Bleeding Love:
In hopes of reconnecting with his estranged child, a father (Golden Globe®-Winner Ewan McGregor) takes his now-adult daughter (Clara McGregor) on a road trip to New Mexico to bring them closer together and sort out their strained relationship.
Besides Ewan and Clara McGregor in the spotlight, the movie also includes cast members Kim Zimmer, Devyn McDowell, Sasha Alexander, Jake Weary, and Vera Bulde.
The movie is directed by Emma Westenberg who has helmed several of Janelle Monae’s music videos like Dirty Computer and Pynk. She has also had a hand in directing episodes for Long Slow Exhale and Dollface.
With the film claiming to be from the producers of Past Lives and May December, it’s possible that Bleeding Love could draw in an audience. Admittedly, a father/daughter movie may not be as scandalous as the romances in the previously mentioned films, but the subject matter of drug addiction can get pretty daunting in itself; and it’s going to be interesting to watch McGregor go back to this subject matter after so long.
Bleeding Love is set to come out Feb. 16.
