Marvel Rivals Officially Reveals Venom: Lethal Protector

Spider-Man was part of the initial roster for Marvel Rivals, and it was only a matter of time before the game introduced Peter Parker’s nemesis from the comics—Venom.

Just in, we have the official character reveal for Venom: Lethal Protector, and it showcases a lot of what Eddie Brock can do as a human bonded with an alien symbiote from outer space. Check this out:

Here’s the official description for the character in Marvel Rivals:

Together, we are Venom!

Native to the planet Klyntar but once bonded to a certain infuriating web-head, the alien symbiote found his pair in the disgruntled Eddie Brock, together becoming the hulking Venom. After years as a hungering force of evil, these halves have found their way to becoming a one-of-a-kind lethal protector, evolving beyond their kin yet never surrendering their unmatched ferocity.

Lost in the Timestream Entanglement, Venom remains unable to recollect their past, thrust into worlds unknown as they function on instinct to recuperate. However, darkness stirs in the far reaches of the Multiverse as something ancient wriggles its tendrils into divine minds across all of time and space. Now, it’s up to Venom to recover their memory and take the battle to the edge of space, whether dressed in black or blue!

Though Venom can climb walls and swing like Spider-Man, he’ switched out his webs for tentacles, and his moveset is diversified on the shapeshifting abilities of the symbiote. He actually resembles the classic video game version of Venom from the Marvel vs. Capcom series, and that blue skin definitely feels like an homage to it.

With Spider-Man best known for being quick and nimble, Venom is expected to be a different kind of beast on the arena. That being said, Venom and Spider-Man are expected to have a kind of synergy/dynamic when the two are teamed up or against each other—it’s only expected when it comes to these character-driven hero shooters. Even Overwatch has in-game rivals and companions that have skills that compliment/negate each other.

No release date has been announced for Marvel Rivals, but it’s expected to launch on all major platforms sometime this year.
