Marvel Rivals is definitely having a big year since it launched, and the game continues to get popular as time goes on. The first season is expected to introduce four heroes total with the Fantastic Four, but the devs are apparently planning to drop several heroes in a surprisingly fast rate moving forward.
Talking to Metro, game director Guangyun Chen has confirmed that NetEase Games plans to drop a new hero for Marvel Rivals every six weeks. “We’ll actually be breaking down each season into two halves,” says Chen, “The length of one season is three months. And for each half of the season, we will introduce a new hero.”
For context, the drop of Season 1 a.k.a. Eternal Night Falls saw the release of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman as playable characters. Six weeks from that launch, fans are expecting to get the release of the Human Torch and the Thing. “
Despite the vampire theme of the season, the devs decided to release the Fantastic Four instead of Blade, who has already leaked last month. Chen even said, “Our choice of heroes will be guided by the overall gameplay experience or theme that we want to create for each season.” Either Marvel forced the Fantastic Four to be introduced right away to keep synergy with the movie coming in July, or they just wanted to introduce Doctor Doom’s rival Reed Richards early into narrative.
Either way, it does look like NetEase has a wealth of incoming characters to keep their roster stacked for the year. Besides the Four, there have also been leaks for characters like Hit-Monkey, Captain Marvel, MODOK, Angela, Blade, and Emma Frost.
My fingers are still crossed we get confirmation for Gwenpool soon; because you can’t have Jeff without a playable Gwenpool.
Marvel Rivals is now available for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
