WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS A SLIGHT SPOILER FOR SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY
It’s no mystery to Star Wars fans that the movies have running gags. From ‘I have a bad feeling about this’ to the Wilhelm Scream, fans are always looking for these in-jokes. Apparently, Mark Hamill has just let slip that C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) will be in the film.
Talking a Washington Post podcast (via Express), Hamill let’s out:
“Tony Daniels is happy because he’s in every single Star Wars movie… Every single one: all the prequels, he’s in Rogue One, he’s in Solo… oops, I hope that’s not [a secret].”
… But anyway, he’s in every single Star Wars movie, that’s not such a reveal, Star Wars fans expect him to be in every movie.”
… I said to Tony, ‘it’s perfect, you never age, and if you give them enough trouble they’ll just sign somebody else that fits in that suit!’”
Going back to running gags, it’s well-known to fans that characters C-3PO and R2-D2 have appeared in every Star Wars movie; and like what Hamill said, at this point, everyone is already expecting the droids to appear in this film.
It is worth noting that Solo: A Star Wars Story is not listed on Anthony Daniels’ IMDb page, so it’s possible that Lucasfilm was trying to keep this a secret. Then again, it’s a secret that most fans were already expecting. Maybe it won’t even be a gratuitous cameo—just a small Easter Egg.
Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out May 25.
