It looks like Mads Mikkelsen is once again coming back to the Lucasfilm family. After a role as Death Star engineer Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Hannibal star is now going to be sharing a screen with one Harrison Ford.
As per Deadline, Mikkelsen has been cast in Indiana Jones 5. Wedon’t have any details about his role, but basedon Mikkelsen’s run, it’s very possible that he could be playing the main villain. Though he may have been on the side of good for Star Wars, it would be great to see Mikkelsen take on another villain—and one that’s going up against Indiana Jones no doubt.
Then again, this is just speculation on my part. After being cast as the new Grindelwald for Fantastic Beasts 3, maybe playing another villain in a major franchise could come out stale for an actor like Mikkelsen. Then again, he does make for very dashing, enigmatic antagonists; and that would be a perfect foil for an old, rough-around-the-edges character like Indy.
Mikkelsen joins a cast that includes Ford and Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Though Steven Spielberg was originally attached to direct, the helm has been passed over to Logan director James Mangold.
No details have been revealed about the script yet, but a lot of people are speculating that this film would either give the Indiana Jones franchise a definitive end or have Indy pass the torch and start the franchise anew. Either way, I don’t think anyone is expecting Harrison Ford to do any more of these.
Indiana Jones 5 is currently set to release on July 28, 2022.
