Disney may be planning to drop the next big MCU film with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 next month, but if superhero films aren’t your thing, we’re also getting the live-action adaptation for The Little Mermaid.
Hype is slowly building up to the release of the film, and Disney has just released the full rendition of Halle Bailey’s version of Part of Your World. Check this out:
Compared to Jodi Benson’s original version, Bailey’s take on Part of Your World has a lot more vocal belting. I mean, if she can reach the notes, I would imagine they would let her go as much as she wanted. Having a powerful voice could also give more meaning to the moment when Ursula decides to take it in exchange for Ariel becoming human.
With Part of Your World being one of the most anticipated numbers in the movie, I’m thinking Disney will be dropping the full soundtrack soon. Though we are getting new takes on classic songs like Kiss the Girl and Under the Sea, we should also expect a new song called For the First Time which was written by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, and is said to play during Ariel’s first trip around the human world with Prince Eric.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The Little Mermaid swims into theaters on May 26.
