The Naked Gun trilogy starring Leslie Nielsen was a huge hit back in the 90s, and it had sat as a trilogy for a good 30 years. However, like with all other lucrative properties, it looks like Hollywood is now ready to bring back Frank Drebin to the big screen.

Besides Neeson, the movie also includes Paul Walter Hauser, Pamela Anderson, Kevin Durand, CCH Punder, Cody Rohodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston.
The movie is also being produced by Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane and is being directed by Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer—who also directed the Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers movie for Disney+.
It’s interesting that The Naked Gun should be looking to come back to cinemas since slapstick comedy had essentially died out since the 2000s. I do think that Seth MacFarlane still delivers with his brand of comedy for modern audiences, and this team might just be the perfect blend of absurdist humor that would be perfect for a new Naked Gun franchise.
As for Neeson, his casting comes very meta in that he’s not really a comedian, but he plays off really well in comedies because of how serious he is. The same was said about Nielsen who is considered a comedy icon—but played his part in The Naked Gun completely straight, making him absolutely hilarious.
Watch out for The Naked Gun when it comes to cinemas later this year.
