LEGO has managed to make some very lucrative partnerships in the past with properties like Star Wars and Harry Potter, but now they’re looking to cash-in on a collab with one of Japan’s most famous imports—Pokemon.
Here’s the official teaser for LEGO Pokemon:
Before anyone is confused thinking that this would be a game, it’s been confirmed that the announcement is for some themed sets that are expected to launch next year.
Most recently, the license for block toys had belonged to Mega, but now it looks like the Pokemon Company wants to team up with the biggest block brand around. The LEGO Group’s chief product and marketing officer Julia Goldin had this to say about the collab:
“We strongly believe that through the endless possibilities of Lego play and the exciting adventures the world of Pokémon brings, this partnership will create a range of new possibilities for Trainers and builders alike.”
We don’t know exactly what LEGO is going to come up with, but by the looks of the teaser, Pokemon fans may be able to expect some builds of popular Pokemon characters. Maybe there could be sets for in-game locations like Pokemon centers or a gym.
Previous Nintendo brands that LEGO has managed to collab with include The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. Hopefully they’ll be able to come up with some interesting LEGO sets, seeing as there are already several Pokemon block toys that have been out for a while.
The LEGO Pokemon sets are expected to launch sometime next year.
