Because of scheduling issues with Vixen actress Megalyn Echikunwoke, from the animated series and Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow will star an earlier version of the character. Played by Maisie Richardson-Seller, this version introduces Mari McCabe’s grandmother to the Arrowverse, Amaya Jiwe.
The official press release, via CBR, describes Jiwe as follows:
“Amaya Jiwe – better known as Vixen – is the newest superhero to board the Waverider and join the ranks of the Legends of Tomorrow. Like her granddaughter, Mari McCabe, Amaya’s powers are derived from the mysterious Tantu Totem, which allows her to magically access the abilities of animals.”
Richardson-Seller has been previously seen as resistance officer Korr Sella in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as in another CW series, The Originals. She will now star on Legends as a series regular. If you’ll be missing Echikunwoke’s version of Vixen, don’t worry, she is still set to star in the Vixen animated web-series which returns this fall on CW Seed. Echikunwoke’s Mari McCabe is also likely to return sometime in the future with a live-action appearance. Surely, she won’t be too busy forever… right?
Legends of Tomorrow returns for its second season October 13 at 8pm EST on The CW.
