Move over Andy Serkis, because a new era of apes is set to take over the Planet of the Apes franchise in the box office. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to release in theaters later this year, and we have a new trailer showcasing the evolved apes and what’s left of the human species.
Watch this:
Here’s the synopsis:
Set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
Though the first three films in the Planet of the Apes reboot have showcased the fall of human civilization, this movie will pretty much bring us around the timeline of the original POTA movie where apes have become the dominant species and the humans have been relegated to mere animals.
Interspecies existence has always been in the core of the film so far, and it does look like that theme will continue with this movie. It’s going to be interesting to watch how the apes tackle the truth that humans were once the dominant species here, and I think we’re going to watch these apes commit the same mistakes that humans did if they don’t manage to learn from their history.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to release in theaters on May 10.
