The first M3GAN was considered to be a modern-day homage to the classic slasher Child’s Play, and the film was such a hit (specifically with the LGBTQ+ community) that a sequel had been greenlit. Now M3GAN 2.0 is set to hit theaters in June, and we have a new trailer that ups the gay factor.

Though M3GAN was the central villain of the first movie, it looks like the sequel is pulling a Terminator in that they introduce a more deadly robot, and it would be up to the first robot to take her on.
M3GAN was already pretty sassy in the first movie, but with the sequel it looks like the movie is fully leaning into it; and they even have some of her fans praising her as a ‘warrior princess’ for a touch of that meta humor.
I’ll admit, I really wanted the new robot Amelia to look just like another living doll, but it would make sense for her to pass as human in order to fulfil that plot point that she was made to be a good infiltrator. Plus it continues the Terminator comparison by having M3GAN go up against something that’s clearly more advanced than her.
Personally, I think the change of direction is great. While it would have been predictable to have M3GAN just return and scare the hell out of everyone again, it’s interesting to have her be a killer robot that the audience can root for; while at the same time keeping her ‘bitchy’ way of talking back to everyone.
