Fantasy and Cooking have been two dominant genres when it comes to anime, and while they serve completely different audiences, this upcoming anime is set to bring both of the genres together.

The official description for the series reads:
In the depths of the dungeon, the younger sister of adventurer Laios was eaten by a Red Dragon ― and he barely made it back to the surface with his life. Laios attempts to venture into the dungeon again, but his money and rations are still in the dungeon’s lower depths. Knowing that his sister may be digested at any moment, Laios decides: “I’ll get my food from the dungeon itself!” That means eating slimes, basilisks, mimics and even dragons! Go forth, adventurer ― traverse the dungeon and eat whatever stands in your way!
The anime is based on the manga Dungeon Meshi which came from author Ryoko Kui. The series was launched back in 2014, and had gathered 102 chapters over the course of 14 volumes.
Though the fantasy genre does come with a lot of familiar tropes that audiences can expect from a fantasy story, Delicious in Dungeon does flip the concept over its head by having a group of adventurers who not only want to defeat monsters, but actually eat them as well.
Thankfully we don’t have to wait too long until the series comes out. Delicious in Dungeon premieres on Netflix on Jan. 4, 2024.
