Tim Burton Gets Freaky Once More with Latest Trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Michael Keaton has been doing a revisit of his more famous roles recently, so it was only natural that he would come back for a sequel to Beetlejuice. Titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the film seems like it’s going to be pretty freaky.

The movie is set to release this September with new lead girl Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), and we just got a new trailer filled with all kinds of trademark Tim Burton-isms like stop-motion and stripes. Check this out:

Here’s the synopsis for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice:

Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.

Though the first teaser was pretty sparing on the reveals, the new trailers gives us a good look at all the kinds of wacky effects we should expect with a Beetlejuice movie.

There are definitely a lot of callbacks to all the classic gags from the first movie, including the exaggerated clay faces—plus we also have that same gag of Beetlejuice making a scary face, and we can only see it from the back where things are flying out of it.

I’ll admit, this thing looks to be leaning really heavily on nostalgia, but I am hopeful that we get a significant arc for Ortega’s character who is the new ‘Lydia’ of the story. That being said, I also hope that Lydia herself (Winona Ryder) also gets to have a significant role in the movie as well.

Catch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice when it releases in theaters on Sept. 6.
