Ever since Joker: Folie a Deux came out in digital, it’s been getting some endorsement from other creatives—one of them being auteur director Quentin Tarantino. Now another visionary director is singing his praises for the film, and he thinks it could be a cult classic in the next few years.
Hideo Kojima wrote in a recent post:
I watched "Joker: Folie à Deux.” The beginning of the film is an animation sequence, reminiscent of the nostalgic "Looney Tunes", depicting a story of Joker and Joker’s shadow. “Over the next 10 or 20 years, this film’s reputation will likely change along with the permeation of hero movies to come. It may take some time for it to become a true “folie à deux.””
When Folie a Deux came out earlier last month, it was met with several angry reviews with a lot of fans not pleased with the musical direction as well as the story direction where Arthur rejects the Joker persona and is killed by a Joker wannabe at the end of the movie.
Site after site was writing about how Folie a Deux was a huge failure for WB and how much money it lost the studio, but there have been some positive reviews that have made their way online; and like Tarantino and Kojima, they think that the movie releasing in digital could expand its audience and have many realize that the movie is actually a very fitting sequel with a meta angle that condemns any glorification of violence that the first movie had allegedly championed.
I personally loved the movie, and I feel vindicated that some of my fave directors also think the same way about the film. Todd Phillips is the real Joker all along.
Joker: Folie a Deux is now available on digital. Kojima’s next game, Death Stranding 2, is expected to launch sometime next year.
