Black Panther had so much commercial and critical success this year. Fans loved how the film was the very first all-black comic book movie from the studio. Next year we’ll have Captain Marvel, Marvel’s first female superhero movie.
As it turns out, there are plans to bring in Muslim superhero Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel to the MCU. Marvel head Kevin Feige gives us an update.
Talking to BBC (via @StaarksHeart), Feige comments:
“We’re doing Captain Marvel right now. Captain Marvel is shooting right now with Brie Larson. Ms. Marvel which is another character in the comic books, a Muslim hero who was inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely in the works. We have plans for that once we’ve introduced Captain Marvel to the world.”
With religion being such a sensitive subject, you think that Disney would want to shy away from that in their films. What’s cool about Kamala though, is that she gives a very realistic view on growing up Muslim in America—despite her having abilities to shapeshift.
With Kamala’s age, I think it would be perfect to have her be a classmate of one Peter Parker. Seeing that she’s also obsessed with superheroes, she could actually bond with Spider-Man who himself looks up to the Avengers. Plus, it would be cool to see Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel team-up.
We don’t have any announced date for when we’ll ever meet Kamala Khan in the movies, but Captain Marvel does hit theaters March 8, 2019.
