While rumors have been going around about Keanu Reeves reprising John Constantine for DC, fans have been asking if the Matrix star would be interested in any roles in the MCU.
In a recent AMA on Reddit (via Deadline), Reeves was asked whether he had any roles that he regretted turning down, and he replied, “…No…but I did always want to play Wolverine”.
Back in 2019, Marvel head Kevin Feige had confirmed that they have had meetings with Reeves to join the MCU, but they have yet to find the right role for him to fill. While the John Wick star would seem perfect for Wolverine, I think the studio may be looking for someone younger to take on the role for a couple of decades. I mean, Reeves is even older than the OG live-action Wolverine Hugh Jackman.
If anything, the multiverse opening up does present the possibility of Wolverine variants showing up in the MCU. Rumor even has it that Jackman would be playing multiple Wolverines in the upcoming Deadpool film. With John Krasinski’s turn as Mister Fantastic in Doctor Strange 2 seemingly a one-and-done role, maybe there’s room for Reeves to do a small cameo of his Wolverine in a future film?
Personally, I would love for Marvel to cast a completely new set of X-Men for the main universe. If anything, they can even skip out Wolverine like in First Class and just introduce him in the sequel. While Jackman is great, I’m eager to see Marvel cast someone accurate to the comic version; make Logan short and hairy, why don’t you?
In the meantime, you can watch out for Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4 which comes to theaters on March 24.
