While she wasn’t originally announced for Marvel Phase 4, it looks like Marvel Studios and Disney are moving forward with Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan unexpectedly fast. Word has it that her series is set to start shooting before the year ends, and now we have details on when Kamala could make her big screen debut.
According to The Direct, Kamala is expected to make an appearance in the Captain Marvel sequel as a supporting character with the movie being described as a ‘mini-Avengers film.’ Word also has is that the film will be adapting the Secret Invasion storyline, in which Skrulls have infiltrated the Earth via their shape-shifting powers and are set to hold a long-term invasion.
I don’t know about you, but I have been burned with the Secret Invasion story for the first Captain Marvel films, so I’m going to take that with a grain of salt. With the Skrulls being presented as “good guys” in the MCU, there needs to be a whole new level of explanation on the arrival of the actual ‘evil’ Skrulls.
As for Ms. Marvel’s appearance, it makes a lot of sense. If Kamala is going to take the ‘Marvel’ mantle, then it would make sense for her to meet the OG Captain Marvel. Besides that, I would love for Kamala to be on the big screen where more people can find out about her. Personally, I think she’s more interesting than Carol Danvers, but I get how Disney wants to be careful when it comes to introducing more diverse heroes in their roster. It only takes so little to rile up that side of the fandom.
For now, Captain Marvel 2 is expected to come out on July 8, 2022.
