Love or hate Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the end of the movie had brought something never-before-seen in the Jurassic franchise which is dinosaurs roaming free all over the world. The dino-pocalypse had been teased in the short Battle at Big Rock, and now Universal has released the first five minutes of Jurassic World Dominion.
Watch the footage for Dominion down here:
This original 5 min prologue to Jurassic World Dominion, directed by Colin Trevorrow, rockets audiences back 65 million years into the past to experience the world before humans existed—and offers a glimpse of a world in which dinosaurs are living among us.
The prologue essentially gives us a look at prehistoric times when the dinosaur DNA is trapped inside the mosquitoes, and then it flash forwards to the ‘present’ where dinosaurs have been released into civilization—with one letting loose in a drive-in theater.
While we’ve always had stories where people get trapped in the Isla Nublar, and we’ve had a story where one dinosaur gets let loose in a city. Now Dominion is really looking to shake things up by having dinosaurs walk the literal Earth. With Fallen Kingdom tackling the ethical issues of keeping the dinosaurs alive, what will humans do when they are faced with being replaced as the dominant species on the planet?
It’s a very interesting take on Jurassic, and while I’m bummed that director Colin Trevorrow didn’t get to make his Star Wars film, hopefully he can bring a satisfying conclusion to this IP that he started.
Catch Jurassic World Dominion when it hits theaters on June 10, 2022.
