Though she may be the one who prefers terrorizing people in Wednesday, Jenna Ortega is coming back to the role of a horror victim in the upcoming Scream VI. Just in, we have a new trailer, and it features the Ghostface killer coming to NYC.
Watch this:
Here’s the official description:
In the next installment, the survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter in New York City.
Besides Ortega, the movie also stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. Hayden Panattiere and Courtney Cox are also set to make an appearance alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Tony Revolori, and Samara Weaving.
The Scream franchise has always been kind of unique in that they are also a meta-commentary on the slasher genre. Even the last Scream film was kind of a jab a franchise fandom, and poked fun at the toxic fans who wanted to bring the franchise back the way they think it should be.
With the Scream movies generally taking place in brightly-lit suburban areas, I’m curious how the film will try to shake up the formula by having the Ghostface killer in the densely populated New York City. Who knows, maybe they have a new commentary on modern slasher films like X or Barbarian. At this point, all I can really do is speculate.
Scream VI is set to hit theaters on March 10, 2023.
